Soilfix is able to offer a range of support services that frequently compliment remediation works including:
Demolition & Site ClearanceThere are often synergies between demolition works and remediation. Without a good understanding of the environmental issues at a site, demolition activities can lead to increased environmental risks and remedial costs. By managing site demolition and decommissioning activities as part of a remediation scheme, Soilfix can facilitate cost and environmental benefits as well as accelerate overall programs. Soilfix can either carry out these works independently or work closely with your preferred demolition contractor to ensure minimal environmental impacts and maximise the potential remediation benefits. Services offered include disconnection of services, site clearance, removal of asbestos, demolition of structures, the removal of underground storage tanks UST’s. All works are carried out with a high level of Health, Safety and Environmental Controls. Enabling and EarthworksContaminated ground conditions can have significant implications for enabling and groundwork packages including environmental controls and increased costs associated with the management of waste arisings. With its highly experienced team, Soilfix is capable of carrying out bulk earthworks as part of a remediation, reclamation, infrastructure or development project. Significant value can often be added where such works are required in conjunction with remediation. These works can be co-ordinated on either a Principal Contractor or Sub-Contractor bases dependent on the client’s requirements. Waste Classification and Pre-TreatmentSince the introduction of Landfill Regulations in 2002, classification of soils as waste has become increasingly complex. As an integral part of many remediation strategies, Soilfix is adept at the classification and pre-treatment of waste soils. Pre-treatment can often include application of an appropriate remedial technology and frequently results in cost savings on disposal of construction arisings. If costly construction arisings are an issue on your site Soilfix may be able to make you savings. Habitat RestorationRestoration of damaged wildlife habitats can be an important aspect of the regeneration of brownfield land. Works often needed in conjunction with remediation and can include restoration of past habitats as well as ensuring their protection into the future. Soilfix personnel have experience in the restoration of various habitats including woodland, hedgerows and watercourses. Invasive Weed EradicationWith no natural restrictions invasive weeds (e.g. Japanese Knotweed, Himalayan Balsam) can spread rapidly to the detriment of our own native plant species and building materials. Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, it is an offence to plant or allow these species to grow in the wild. Waste material suspected of containing the Japanese Knotweed should be disposed of according to the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (Duty of Care) Regulations. Japanese Knotweed, is an invasive, fast growing perennial that can regenerate itself from broken segments of its root system as small as 2cm. Hence it thrives on disturbance and has often been spread in the past by transport of soil containing rhizome fragments. Root systems can reach up to 18m in length and are capable of penetrating tarmac, concrete and paving, often causing extensive damage. Above ground they form dense canopies under which few of our native plant species can survive. It can be eradicated by excavation and either off-site disposal, on-site burial or on-site treatment. All eradication requires strict environmental controls and appropriately trained staff. Application of herbicide alone is no longer considered an effective eradication method. Talk to Soilfix to find out the optimum eradication solution for your site. Plant HireSoilfix carries a range of standard and specialist equipment available for independent hire including excavators (plus a range of attachments), dumpers, specialist pumps/skimmers, oil water separators, carbon filtration and silt removal. Surveying Using the latest Trimble Technology Soilfix can provide supporting or stand-alone surveying services on projects. The survey data can be processed using LSS, presented at any scale and contoured at any interval. Processed survey data can be supplied in a variety of formats including AutoCAD (2d and 3d), LSS Model, Comma Separated Files, PDF or DXF. |
