After recently entering into a Framework Contract with Be Living Ltd, Soilfix are delighted to have been given the green light to commence a 30 week contract comprising archaeological investigations, site remediation and development platform preparation at the former Abbey Retail Park site in Barking. The site is situated on the former Bryant & May match works which was constructed over a portion of the wider Barking Abbey, a former royal monastery dating from the 7th Century.
Be Living has acquired 3.88 acres of the approximately 9 acre Abbey Retail Park site to develop and manage 597 purpose built private rented homes. The site is located in the heart of Barking on Abbey Road, situated a short walk to Barking’s mainline and London Underground station.
As part of the planning requirements for the scheme, comprehensive archaeological investigations will be carried out by Thames Valley Archaeological Services with enabling works and supervision carried out by Soilfix acting as Principal Contractor. This investigation will culminate in 1 week of local public / school outreach visits to view the archaeological features being identified and recorded.
Soilfix have developed a sustainable, multi-disciplinary soil & groundwater remediation solution in close liaison with London Borough of Barking & Dagenham (LBBD) and the Environment Agency to render the site ‘suitable for use’ and satisfy all planning / building control requirements. Third party verification of the scheme will be carried out by idom Merebrook Ltd.
