There is a lot of social media focus on Soilfix and the projects that we are working on, but none of this would be possible without our valued employees.
From pumping injection wells in the cold to recording waste tickets from the comfort of a warm office, every employee plays a vital and valuable role.
The ‘Employee Spotlight’ series introduces you to our staff and in turn, gives a round of literary applause to each.
We continue this series for February with Jamie Mitchell who is one of our Project Managers, based at our Rayleigh Office.
Name: Jamie Mitchell
Job Title: Project Manager
Briefly describe how you spend your day
Tough question, as no day is the same as the next! A typical day at work would consist of:
– Site visits and checking in with the site team on each of my projects
– Troubleshooting any challenges we may have on any of the projects I am managing and coming to an agreed solution with the rest of the project team
– Making sure that we are delivering our projects to the required specification and on time
– Reviewing Site Investigation Information for clients and advising on potential options for remediation & enabling at their sites;
– Attending meetings to discuss LIVE projects with clients and colleagues as well as future projects /opportunities;
After work, I would typically go out for a long-distance run or go to the gym, followed by coming home to normally read Roald Dahl stories to my little lad. We are currently on James and the Giant Peach, with my favourite read so far being “The Giraffe, the Pelly and me.”
What is the best thing about your job?
Sounds cheesy, but meeting and helping clients with challenging sites and problems. I especially love a challenge! There is also “no one size fits all” for the type of work we do, which keeps it fresh and exciting.
What is the best thing about working for Soilfix?
The culture and the people I work with. From the top down, everyone is friendly and approachable and we make a really good team! Having good hardworking people around you where everyone has a similar work ethic makes my job even more rewarding
Proudest moment so far working for Soilfix?
This is a very difficult question, as since I have worked at Soilfix we have had our fair share of challenging projects to overcome, all of which I am proud to have been a part of! I think if I had to choose something specific to me, it would be making the role of Project Manager before the age of 30.
What do you like to do outside of work?
My hobbies and interests are:
Running
Weight Lifting
Boxing
Wood/beach walks with the family
Fishing
Tropical Fishkeeping
Music (love 80’s)
DIY
Eating (I am very good at this!)
What inspires you?
People & nature. I really love a good come back story, my favourite in recent times being that of the heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury.
Fill in the blank: I once met ….
The comedian & actor Mike Reid
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
