There is a lot of social media focus on Soilfix and the projects that we are working on, but none of this would be possible without our valued employees. From pumping injection wells in the cold to recording waste tickets from the comfort of a warm office, every employee plays a vital and valuable role. The ‘Employee Spotlight’ series introduces you to our staff and in turn, gives a round of literary applause to each. We continue this series for September with;
Tim Blake – Assistant Project Manager
1. Briefly describe how you spend your day.
My days vary significantly depending on the current requirements of my projects. I may start the day working on project financials and in the next breath be out on-site sampling or surveying and anything else in between.
2. What is the best thing about your job?
The variable nature of the projects and enabling the redevelopment of brownfield land.
3. What is the best thing about working for Soilfix?
The Soilfix team are great to work across with the board and it definitely makes working life easier and more enjoyable.
4. Proudest moment so far working for Soilfix?
I am generally proud to work for a company that cleans up the environment rather than adding to the many issues that we face as a society.
5. What do you like to do outside of work?
I have been playing drums for over 10 years (albeit intermittently!) and I have recently been getting back into playing music with friends. Whether or not this will actually lead to a band is to be confirmed! I’ve also bought my first house this year and have been getting into gardening. Now to try and not kill everything over the winter…
6. What inspires you?
Finding solutions to the endless possible issues that a remediation project can throw at me!
7. Fill in the blank: I once met ….
Technically nobody famous although I did allegedly accidentally walk into Rihanna on Oxford Street. I wasn’t immediately tasered by bodyguards so perhaps it wasn’t Rihanna after all.
8. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would like to be able to play guitar or learn another language.
9. What’s your Monday morning ‘motivational shower song’?
I don’t tend to have music on in the shower as I’m usually up at silly o’clock and I don’t think my girlfriend would appreciate the extra noise… However, my journeys to site / the office are usually accompanied by anything rock / indie.
10. What are five words (or less) of advice for others in your profession?
What’s the risk? Always ask yourself the question before making a decision in remediation.
