The Docks and Quay areas of Gloucester have been a focus for regeneration over the past few decades and this has raised the profile of the City and helped to create perceptions as a tourist destination. Regeneration of the Docks includes residential accommodation, employment/office space, and food and drink. Soilfix have previously carried out large-scale remediation and enabling works on behalf of Peel L&P to unlock further redevelopment.
Crest Nicholson and the Guinness Trust were in partnership to construct affordable residential units, and with ~10,000m3 soils stockpiled from previous construction phases, we were able to get this last phase of construction progressed.
Soilfix supported Crest to achieve the most sustainable and cost-effective disposal approach to the surplus soils by carrying out supplementary waste classification testing, negotiated with the receiving waste operator on their behalf and screening recoverable aggregate from soils. Soilfix thereafter managed the removal of 800 loads of soils off-site on behalf of Crest in a timely and safe manner. A ‘hybrid’ working platform was thereafter constructed for piling operations, using lime/cement stabilisation of soils capped with a protective layer of site worn crushed concrete generated by the screening process.
The working platform was completed on program to enable piling works to commence on program, in spite of numerous logistical challenges and prolonged inclement weather!
