Following 10 weeks of painstaking surgical excavation, Soilfix has successfully carried out public outreach days at its Barking Wharf regeneration site to help fulfil its client’s planning obligations with respect to archaeology. A total of 5 schools from the Barking & Dagenham area visited the site, followed by more than 80 members of the public – all interested in viewing the Saxon archaeological remains that have been uncovered. Saxon walls, foundations, forges, timber jetties and even a medieval dog skeleton have been painstakingly uncovered by a team of archaeologists, with Soilfix ensuring all works have been carried out in a safe manner.
Archaeologists from Thames Valley Archaeology Services (TVAS) have been carefully exposing and recording the remains prior to continued remediation works. The outreach days were very well received by both the local schools and local archaeological enthusiasts alike.
