Jack Jones, our trainee Assistant Accountant recently visited our site at the former Gasworks in Fulham. It’s always curious when non-site-based employees leave the four walls of the office, so we asked him what he thought!
How has it benefited your role by visiting one of the Soilfix sites?
I have visited our Fulham gasworks site a few times now and have benefitted from gaining a greater understanding of what Soilfix does on site.
For me, it was interesting to see all the equipment up close in action compared to only seeing the invoicing side to it.
Thinking about first impressions, was the site bigger or smaller than you thought?
As the groundworks are going right up to the site boundaries and they are digging a few metres down, the site came across bigger than I expected it to.
The Gasholder was definitely bigger up close compared to the pictures I saw beforehand!
Did the scale of the site make you feel more involved in the project, in a way that you hadn’t recognised before?
As I am assisting Emma with the waste ticket organisation side of the operation, I was already aware of the sheer scale of the muck away quantities going off-site,
so seeing the procedure in person and doing my side of things on site made me feel much more involved.
Have the relationships between yourself and the site team strengthened since meeting them in the flesh, and if so in what ways?
Everyone on site is very friendly and easy to speak to. Working closely with Emma and Colin is beneficial for me as I find myself understanding the waste side of the project much easier.
Also being able to witness Jason and Shane’s awful banter is definitely amusing!
What surprised you most about your site visit?
How deep down they are digging and the various types of waste.
I’ve heard the onsite canteen at Fulham is legendary, is this true?
Legendary is the right word. Very generous portions and energetic friendly staff.
