Wirral Waters so far… an update in the sun!
Our Business Development Manager, Helen Bennett, spent an enlightening afternoon last week at Wirral Waters, Europe’s largest urban regeneration scheme, set across 500 acres of land and water at the site of the former Birkenhead Docks.
Helen was joined by Soilfix Managing Director, George Evans for some productive client meetings and a tour of this flagship scheme, during which she was able to learn in greater detail about the large-scale site preparation, remediation and enabling works that Soilfix carried out here for Peel Land and Property during 2019/20, along 4.5ha of former dockland comprising the Northbank, Legacy and Belong land parcels.
Soilfix implemented a sustainable site preparation and remediation scheme, with more than 99% re-use of 100,000 tonnes of made ground soils and hardcore. Our site-enabling works included a programme of extensive archaeological investigations to record historical usages of interest, including former smalt, alkali and lead works, a ceramic factory and a copper rolling mill.
Fast forward to the present day and a £130m residential development, including 500 waterfront apartments on Millers Quay sited on the Northbank West area prepared by Soilfix and handed over to GRAHAM, has almost reached completion. This development has recently won ‘Deal of the Year’ at the Insider North West Residential Property Awards. In addition, the first 28, energy efficient modular homes at Redbridge Quay, sited on the Northbank East area prepared by Soilfix are now on the market.
Up to 13,000 new homes have been consented in the Masterplan, together with 20million sq-ft of mixed-use commercial space and areas of public open space.
The largest and most exciting regeneration project in the UK will continue to unfold…
