Soilfix has had another positive year, and the Health & Safety Committee has played an essential part. We are thrilled to share the H&S recognition scheme winners for 2024. The scheme rewards members of the team, including sub-contractors / agency workers, where they have demonstrated outstanding commitment / performance related to Health & Safety and exemplified our values. Winners receive a £50 Amazon voucher and certificate for their efforts. Members of the H&S committee are usually exempt, but in this case, we received several nominations for this individual and wanted to recognise this person’s consistent efforts and considered this a worthy nomination, so we have four winners. The winners are as follows:
- Jon Cowie – For consistently delivering clear and informative communication during the daily activity briefings. Always highlighting the potential hazards that may occur during site operations ensuring everyone is aware. Jon always covers what deliveries and potential interactions there may be with third parties allowing others to plan their day and any potential changes there may be. Knowing what is expected of the team really helps to set them up for the day ahead.
- Ben Burgess – Aside from being an all-round good egg, Ben continues to set a good example within the company for H&S. Ben is often named as someone who regularly reports H&S events and while he has been recognised for this before, I believe he does this because it is important to him, not to get recognition. Ben is the only full-time operationally based member of the H&S committee and fitting everything in around his busy job role says a lot about how he prioritises H&S. He sends out engaging and informative emails and Bens insightful knowledge and contribution are essential for us.
- Ashley Circuit – A consistently positive and often smiling influence in keeping the spirits up on site. This was noted at Fulham and has continued to Dagenham. The challenging works at Dagenham includes carrying out some tricky tasks while exploring new ways of working while always keeping things safe and efficient. Ashley also handled a potentially difficult scenario recently in a professional and empathetic way towards all concerned.
- Ian Croft – Nominated by two separate colleagues, Ian has been recognised for going “above & beyond” on a site in challenging conditions, around other contractors and timescales. This involved managing multiple vehicle movements effectively on a very small footprint and ensuring adequate provisions such as traffic marshals were deployed effectively. This supported positive interactions with our client and their other sub-contractors.
