Soilfix and the BBC:
Soilfix is thrilled to take part in an interview for BBCSouthEast, where William Walsh, Regional MD of Barratt Redrow discussed their regeneration proposals at the former MOD site in Fort Halstead, Kent.
In addition, Soilfix MD Peter Howland talks about our involvement on the demolition throughout the year, and the benefits the development will bring to the area.

Project Background:
Soilfix are currently engaged in an 80-week contract with Barratt Redrow. Whereupon multi-disciplinary site decommissioning, demolition, remediation & enabling earthworks are all being carried out across this 100-acre site.
Scope of Works:
Many former MOD sites contain legacy contamination from historic activities. These include fuel storage, vehicle maintenance, historic demolition/refurbishment, and other defence-related operations. At Fort Halstead, remediation will use a targeted combination of soil treatment methods. These include modular soil processing, bioremediation, stabilisation/solidification and aggregate processing. All to render materials suitable for re-use on site.
Sustainability & Environmental Management:
These site-won materials will then form the re-graded, engineered development platform upon which the development will be constructed. In other words, fully in line with UK Circular Economy objectives.
All works are being undertaken under the relevant Environmental Permits and a Construction Environmental Monitoring Plan (CEMP). Environmental monitoring, compliance testing and third party verification by RSK Geosciences to ensure the site meets relevant Local Authority planning conditions.
Ecology & Arboriculture:
Soilfix are also working close collaboration with RSK Biocensus to ensure all ecological and arboricultural requirements of the CEMP are being fully met. This includes the painstaking erection of over 17 Kilometres of Tree Protection Fencing!
