Julian Jones, our Contracts Manager, recently spent the day at our Wroughton site as part of Leading, Learning, Building Safe Ground, our ongoing worker engagement initiative on health and safety.
The visit began with the morning briefing, led by the site manager and attended by the whole site team. From there, Julian sat down with the team to talk through what the job actually involves, day to day.
Dust management has been the toughest part of the last few months. With the site’s water supply capped at 20,000 litres a day, keeping dust within acceptable limits while the work carries on has taken careful planning. The recent spell of hot weather made this harder still, though rainfall and the team’s ongoing suppression measures have kept things under control.
The team also had to think about noise. The site compound and generator sit next to a residential area, so specialist noise-reduction blankets have gone up along the perimeter fencing, cutting noise for neighbouring properties and showing the kind of consideration that matters when you’re working close to where people live.
Julian and the team also reviewed the occupational health hazards on site, an area the HSE continues to keep a close eye on across the industry.
When team member was asked what he enjoys most about the job, his answer was simply, “Seeing a site transform from what was once wasteland into a completed project ready for future development”.
Thanks to the Wroughton team for taking the time to show Julian round and talk openly about their experiences.
