Soilfix has recently completed its first in-house slurry cut-off barrier at the Tipner Regeneration Project, Portsmouth. A 325m length barrier has been constructed along the foreshore to protect Tipner Lakes, a RAMSAR Site of Special Scientific Interest, to a depth of up to 7.5metres prior to large-scale remediation works.
The works were completed in the most challenging of ground conditions (former reclaimed marshland) and had to work around buried concrete barges, anchor chains and blocks. Independent Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) supervision and testing was carried out by idom Merebrook to protocols agreed with the Environment Agency. The next stage of the project will involve the construction of two Permeable Reactive Sections in the cutoff-barrier to polish contaminated groundwater before it enters Tipner Lakes.
