Employee Spotlight – Lewis Hunt

Employee Spotlight, Staff

There is a lot of social media focus on Soilfix and the projects that we are working on, but none of this would be possible without our valued employees. From pumping injection wells in the cold to recording waste tickets from the comfort of a warm office, every employee plays a vital and valuable role. The ‘Employee Spotlight’ series introduces you to our staff and in turn, gives a round of literary applause to each.  We continue this series for October with;

Lewis Hunt
HSQE Manager

  1. Briefly describe how you spend your day.
I am very fortunate to have a really diverse role. In the morning I might undertake a Health and Safety inspection on one of our live sites, including delivery of Asbestos refresher training, or a Toolbox talk. Then it could be some procedure reviews and updating, or compliance monitoring to ensure Soilfix accreditations status is maintained.
  2. What is the best thing about your job?
The variation. But mostly getting around the sites and speaking to the site teams. Seeing where we can improve safety and trying to promote and influence a collaborative effort towards a continually growing positive culture.
  3. What is the best thing about working for Soilfix?
Literally no two days are the same.
  4. Proudest moment so far working for Soilfix?
Rolling out new initiatives to encourage colleague engagement. I recently received some great feedback from one of our sub-contractors about how good they thought our latest safety stand down was.
  5. What do you like to do outside of work?
I have three daughters who are my why, so there really is nothing more exciting for me than when I walk through the door of an evening to get bombarded with kisses and cuddles. Together with my wife we love to plan days out and mini-breaks to take our children to interesting places. Individually I love to play golf, watch football and boxing and I really enjoy cooking – something I really should make more time for!
  6. What inspires you?
Family life, learning and my colleagues. My family is the reason I go out the door every morning. I love to learn more and stretch myself by reading and enrolling on any useful courses. My colleagues are extremely passionate and knowledgeable – When I’m involved in meetings I like to try to listen twice as much as I talk. Some might disagree with that though.
  7. Fill in the blank: I once met ….
Anthony Joshua, Spencer Oliver, Johnny Nelson, James DeGale….all boxers, plus Barry and Eddie Hearn. Me and a friend managed to get ringside tickets to a fight night at the O2. It was great meeting boxing legends old and new, as well as the sky sports broadcasting team. A real privilege and everyone was really lovely.
  8. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
To speak another language fluently, currently trying Italian and to be a single figure handicap golfer.
  9. What’s your Monday morning ‘motivational shower song’?
I love house music and old skool rave and garage. It would have to be SL2, On a Ragga Tip or 187 Lockdown, Gunman. Both are absolute bangers!
  10. What are five words (or less) of advice for others in your profession
    Embrace and learn from failures.
