Soilfix has recently completed the largest remediation project ever undertaken on the Wirral, Birkenhead for Peel L&P‘s #WirralWaters. The 500-acre site is part of a wider 30-year strategy to transform the Left Bank of the River Mersey into an international recognisable destination.
Soilfix carried out breakout/processing of concrete slabs/substructures, targeted hotspot remediation, development platform preparation and associated works. Out of 50,000m3, over 99% re-use was achieved.
An archaeology investigation was undertaken in February 2020, led by the University of Salford, which led to the discovery of Seacombe Smalt Works, an industry that dates back to 1808! Smalt was a crucial raw material for several 19th-century industries, used as an intense colouring agent.
The remediation works have created a wonderful learning opportunity for the Wirral Metropolitan College – Wirral Met College Construction Students who were lucky enough to have been able to spend some time on-site before Lockdown.
With the works now complete on the Northbank development, construction will soon begin on the first 1,100 homes.
Our client Peel L&P kindly sent us this professional ariel drone footage of our remediation works during/post-completion.
